About Nicole Ramsey
I am an interdisciplinary scholar whose work resides at the intersection of Black studies, Caribbean studies, and Cultural studies. I am concerned with conceptions of nation, representation, and belonging across the Circum-Caribbean and particularly in Belize and the Belizean diaspora in the United States. My current book project, Sub Umbra Floreo (Under the Shade I Flourish): Performing the Belizean Nation reevaluates Belize as a site for understanding intersections in race, performance, and nationhood in the Black diaspora of Central America. I am interested in questions pertaining to gender, migration, identity formations, national identity, and nation in Black Central America, Latin America, and the Caribbean. I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Carter G. Woodson Institute for African American and African Studies at the University of Virginia.Nicole Ramsey is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Carter G. Woodson Institute for African & African American Studies at the University of Virginia.
