About Margaret Smith

I'm a digital humanities professor in the IRIS Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a historian of late medieval and early modern Ireland. My research interests center on authority and identity in late medieval Gaelic lordships. My current book project, Legislating Irishness, maps the spatial and social networks of the early modern Irish legal system, using these lenses to explore the strategies of negotiation employed by native Irish litigants under plantation regimes.

Dr. Margaret Smith is a historian of medieval Ireland and Research Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities in the IRIS Center at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
