About Matthew Hayes

I have recently migrated over from Buddhist Studies after finishing my PhD (2020) to the library world where I am the Japanese Studies and Asian American Studies Librarian at Duke University. At a research level, I am interested in early modern Japanese Buddhist ritual. At a professional level, I serve as liaison between faculty/students and Japanese research materials, off classroom instruction, and manage the Japanese and Asian American Collections here at Duke. I am generally interested in advocating for and promoting the scholarly study of Japan.
