About Kathryn (Kate) Carpenter

I am a PhD Candidate in Princeton’s History of Science Department, working at the intersection of environmental history and history of science. My dissertation focuses on tornado science, storm chasing, and the interaction between professional and amateur meteorological enthusiasts in the twentieth-century U.S. Additionally, I am interested in the history of the American West, women in science, and citizen science. In addition to my research, I am also interested in methodologies including oral histories and using digital tools for evaluating and presenting information. Prior to coming to Princeton, I earned my MA in history with an emphasis in public history from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
