About Roy Barsness

I am a Clinical Psychoanalytic Psychologist, Founder and Executive Director of the Post-Graduate Program in Relationally-Focused Psychodynamic Therapy; Professor at the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology and have been in clinical practice for 30+ years. My primary vocational interest at this point in my career is to "hand-off" what I have learned and practiced over the course of my career and to make difficult psychoanalytic theories and practices accessible. I recently published a textbook entitled: Core Competencies in Relational Psychoanalysis: A Guide to Practice, Study and Research. The text was the result of a two-year qualitative study that honors the uniqueness of the therapeutic dyad while offering seven universal practices common to a relational psychoanalytic practice. As a result of the success of the text and clinicians interest in further in-depth training I have developed a two-year post-graduate certificate program in Relationally-Focused Psychodynamic Therapy (RFPT).
