Paul LeValley's Art Follows Nature: A Worldwide History of the Nude (Edition One Books, 2016) is the first comprehensive study of the nude in art from around the world written by a naturist. Based on a series of columns LeValley wrote for Naturally magazine starting in 1988, the book is a deeply researched analysis of the nude in the history of art across Western and Non-Western cultures including Greece, Egypt, India, China, the Middle East, and Africa. Examples are examined within multiple contexts from the aesthetic to the philosophical and religious to the concern of popular culture. LeValley's study includes over 700 color illustrations and the author has visited many of the sites in the narrative.
