In this episode of New Books in Literary Studies, Miranda Corcoran speaks to Ulrich Baer and Smaran Dayal about their unique anthology, Fictions of America: The Book of Firsts (Warbler Press, 2020).
An expansive collection of literary firsts, Fictions of America brings together works that broke boundaries, sparked new movements and changed how we think about America. This stunning anthology begins with one of the first pieces of American literature, an Iroquois creation myth, before deftly moving along to other notable firsts – the first poetry published in the American colonies, the first work of literature by an African American author, the first gay-themed American poetry.
Fictions of America is an original anthology that captures the vibrancy and diversity of American literature in all its many forms.
