About Yaseen Christian Andrewsen

I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Oxford, specialising in Islamic intellectual history, particularly the scholarly traditions of West Africa. While I am interested in Islamic and Religious Studies broadly, my research explores the contributions of West African Muslim scholars with a focus on Sufism, theology, and concepts such as tajdīd (religious renewal). My work illustrates evolving scholarly cultures and provides insights into how Islamic authority in West Africa connected with the wider Muslim world. As a co-host for the New Books in Islamic Studies podcast, I aim to facilitate conversations that make new scholarship on Islam accessible to both academic and general audiences.
