About Candy Boatwright

I am a Master's student at Clemson University studying early South Carolina trade and commerce in the interior of the state. My primary reason for entering the Master's program is to be able to teach and to help students engage with history in a way that is exciting and meaningful. I was able to take a Food History class and became really interested in the idea of using food as a historical lens to view culture and memory. I have since shifted my research focus to trade and commerce in early colonial South Carolina especially the role that the inland rivers played in the settlement patterns and transportation of goods. On a less formal note, I am fascinated with material culture, sports throughout human history and anything involving pirates.
I am currently studying for a M.A. History degree at Clemson University. My research focus is early South Carolina trade and commerce with an interest in material culture and memory. Website: www.candyrboatwright.net/blog Twitter: @CandyBoatwright
