About Swati Joshi
My name is Swati Joshi. In July 2023, I received Ph.D. in Medical Humanities from the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar in July 2023. My doctoral thesis, Samuel Beckett and Carescapes, developed literary care models from the comparative analysis of Samuel Beckett's œuvre and the contemporary English and French authors who resurrect him as an ailing character. Since November 2024, I have been curating online Beckett seminars supported by The Samuel Beckett Society (https://samuelbeckettsociety.o...). Prior to joining the doctoral programme at IIT Gandhinagar, I worked as a Lecturer of English Language and Literature at St. Xavier's College Ahmedabad (Autonomous), from December 2016 to June 2018. I received my Diploma in French language (B2) from Alliance Française Ahmedabad in 2016. My research is published in the peer-reviewed journals like Medical Humanities/BMJ, Journal of Medical Humanities, Humanities/MDPI, among other places. I have also published book chapters in the Bloomsbury Academic edited volume, Beckett and Nature (2025), and Springer Handbook of Aging, Health and Public Policy: Perspectives from Asia (2025). I was awarded 3000GBP as an International Visiting Doctoral Researcher in 2022 by the Institute of Advanced Studies, Loughborough University. Wellcome Trust London commissioned my artistic autopathography (https://wellcomecollection.org...) and awarded me 835 GBP. I received 325 CAD from Ars Medica as an honorarium for my short (https://ars-medica.ca/index.ph...). In 2025, the Journal of Medical Humanities published the special issue that I guest edited with Dr. Jade Elizabeth French, Loughborough University.
