About Mathew Gagné

Mathew Gagné in an independent writer, scholar, and educator, currently teaching in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto Mississauga. His current research, entitled Gay Sex and Social Media in Beirut: The Erotic Life of Information, examines the political affects of digital media, specifically sex apps, within the intimate lives of queer Beiruti men. His research is published in the Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies, Middle East Journal of Culture and Communications, Jadaliyya.com and Muftah.org, as well as chapters in Home: Ethnographic Encounters (Bloomsbury) and the forthcoming book Sex in the Middle East and North Africa (Vanderbilt University Press).
