About Rine Vieth

Dr. Rine Vieth is an anthropologist interested in questions of law and society, with a geographic focus on the UK, Europe, and MENA regions. Dr. Vieth has a background in Islamic law, anthropology, history, and Russian studies, and has experience as a qualitative, archival, and legal researcher. Their current doctoral project considered how the UK asylum system assesses claims of belief.

Dr. Rine Vieth holds a PhD in Anthropology at McGill University, where they studied how asylum tribunals in the UK consider claims on the basis of belief.

Their research interests include state governance, human rights, bureaucracy, and religion, with a particular emphasis on how people understand and experience law.
