About John Kaag

I am Professor and Chair of Philosophy at UMass Lowell and External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute. I am the author of Hiking with Nietzsche (2018 NPR Best Book) and Sick Souls, Healthy Minds: How William James Can Save Your Life (2020 PROSE Finalist in Philosophy). My writing, principally at the intersection of memoir and philosophy, has been featured in the New York Times, Harper's Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal. I live outside of Boston with my wife, Kathleen, and our kids.
