About Jeffrey Lamson

I am a third year PhD student in world history at Northeastern University. My research focuses on the history of police technology, its relationship to the history of police reform, and its place at the intersection of U.S. domestic policing and global counterinsurgency. My dissertation topic considers the history of the police car from about 1930 through the 1980s. Over the past year I have been completing my comprehensive exams reading in my major field - US history after 1865 - and my two minor fields: the history of science & technology and security & surveillance in world history. Prior to beginning my PhD program I was a high school history teacher for 7 years and earned a Master's in Education in 2017. From that work experience, I am very interested in finding ways to explain complex historical analysis to non-specialists.
