About Anna Bisikalo

My name is Anna Bisikalo and I'm a 4th year PhD student in the History department at Harvard University. I study modern Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. My dissertation is a social history of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church during the Soviet period. I was born in Ukraine and moved to the U.S. when I was young, but I returned every summer to visit. In my research, I focus on the experiences of religious believers, the logic of state policy towards religion, and the intersection of international politics with daily life in borderland areas. I am also fascinated by current work on Soviet modernity, religion in communist societies, and secularism. I have been a fan of the NBN since starting graduate school and would love to contribute to the network.
