Pat McConville is a philosopher and bioethicist based in nipaluna Hobart, in lutruwita Tasmania. He is currently Lecturer in the School of Medicine, Deakin University, Australia.
He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Tasmania, before beginning Master of Bioethics and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at Monash University, Australia. He completed his doctoral studies with a dissertation entitled Phenomenology and Artificial Hearts, and has published in the fields of phenomenology, bioethics, and aesthetics.
Outside academia, he has worked as a ministerial and parliamentary advisor, Divisional Secretary of the higher education labour union, the National Tertiary Education Union, and curator of a university’s public education programmes. He has no formal expertise in art but finds the connection between his own and others’ work and art to be fascinating.
He is a committed father, partner, and unionist.
