About Jue Liang

I am a scholar of Buddhism in general, and Tibetan Buddhism in particular. My research examines women in Tibetan Buddhist communities past and present using a combination of textual and ethnographical studies. I am also interested in translation and transmission as a cultural/religious phenomenon, gender, sexuality, and body in religion, and the transnational history of Buddhism (especially where Tibetan Buddhism intersects with its South and East Asian neighbors). I am currently a visiting assistant professor in the Religion Department at Denison University. I am also active in the public conversation about religion, gender, and Buddhism in the Himalayas.
