About Niharika Yadav

I am a PhD candidate in the history department at Princeton University. I am a historian of South Asia with research interests connecting histories of political and literary practices, histories of decolonization, with studies of language, caste, and gender in South Asia. On a broader scale, my work concerns global histories of democracy and socialism in the 20th century. I am currently finishing a dissertation examining the translation of ‘democratic socialism’—as social theory, literary aesthetic, and mass movement—by a range of actors in vernacular public spheres of postcolonial India.
