I'm a doctoral student in UChicago's History Department, studying the global history of postcolonial energy transitions. I situate this in the 'Third World' (broadly construed), with a focus on West Africa and Southeast Asia, thinking about energy's implications on development, environmental questions, and international networks of knowledge. More broadly, I'm also interested in architecture, urbanism and the climate crisis and histories of economic thought.
Hosting with NBN would be a great opportunity to put these seemingly-disparate areas and geographies in conversation with each other; I also enjoy thinking about books and new work in conversation with their authors, something which I wish I saw more of as a contributor to H-Net's book reviews (with H-Environment and H-SciMedTech). Moreover, I'd love to help authors share their own knowledge and present their work to the public, so that academia feels a little less like a siloed place.
Despite the implications of its subtitle, this is not a travel guide to Singapore, although readers run the risk of becoming tempted to venture there.…
