Laura Milanes-Reyes is a cultural and economic sociologist, working as an independent consultant and scholar. Her research addresses meaning-making in and about the economic sphere. She is co-leading an interdisciplinary project that studies women entrepreneurs in Andean countries through national newspapers and interviews integrating insights from cultural sociology, business history, and management (with Beatriz Rodríguez-Satizábal).
She received her Ph.D. from University at Albany-State University of New York, is a former Fulbright Grantee, and is an Industrial Engineer (BSc., University of Los Andes, Colombia).
