About Sam Young

I'm a recent PhD graduate from Cardiff University, where my research focused on the theology of the Young Christian Workers movement in interwar France. I am now working as a researcher and policy officer for an older people's charity, while also working to turn my thesis into a series of academic articles.

My research spans a range of different disciplines, including French history, Catholic history and theology. I am particularly interested in nineteenth-century Catholic social teaching and the 'social turn' of the Church in response to industrialisation, as well as the conflicts between social Catholicism and the secular political world, especially in the anti-clerical French Republic. More broadly, I'm also interested in French intellectual history, the history of Christian social movements, and Catholic ecology.
