Proust Questionnaire 12
Maaza Mengiste, Novelist
Summary
Maaza Mengiste is an Ethiopian-born American novelist whose two books, The Shadow King (2019) and Beneath the Lion's Gaze (2010), have been greeted with high praise and much critical acclaim. Giving resonant voice to women and men caught up in the ravages of colonialism and war but also uplifted by hope and desire, Mengiste plumbs the archival depths to weave tales that imagine anew our entangled pasts and envision a future for our global age.
